E-Commerce has been in Bangladesh since the late 90s but for more than ten years there was no major growth in this sector. In 2009, Bangladesh Bank opened up online transaction and opened up e-Commerce. Since then this sector continued to grow. Most of the people involved in e-Commerce are young people-university graduates, students. e-Commerce has huge potential in Bangladesh. Currently, there are 43.419 million internet subscribers and 122.657 million mobile subscribers. All these are potential buyers of e-Commerce. However, the penetration of Internet is still low in our country. Rural people do not have access to good internet and they do not know about e-Commerce. Hence, there is lot of room for growth. E-Commerce, if successfully established in Bangladesh, will change the face of economy. New businesses and jobs will be created. University students are in the best position to start e-Commerce business. They use computer, smartphones, laptops. They use Internet and are tech savvy. They understand the value of e-Commerce. If they start now, then they will easily understand the ins and outs of this business. e-Commerce is the future of the businesses around the world. Within the next few years, the entire world will conduct businesses online. It has already started in Bangladesh. Major business organizations in our country have their websites or Facebook pages. Many of them have already started to sell products and services online. Hence, the e-Commerce sector will create lots of jobs. Students who want to become e-Commerce entrepreneurs should start from now.
